Thanks for dropping by!

Good Friday

It's Good Friday today.
1 more day before our meat abstinence end :-D

Mass at HNCT started at 5.00pm, and only ended at 8.30pm!
Sea of people crowded inside and all over the church's compound. There was only one cross used and the fact that Fr. Dr. Peter Abas was the celebrant resulted in the mass taking over 3 hours to finish. We (the choirs) had to repeat our songs 2-3 times, and in the heaty atmosphere, even gulping down water now and then did not relieve our throat dryness.

Many people had to stand all over the church's compound after the four canopies provided outside was full. This scene was taken around 4.45pm, before mass begin.

It was a good thing that Fr. Peter enjoys singing; he came to our rescue a couple of times. We just gave him the nod, and he'd sing some of his favourite songs--eg: Old Rugged Cross and Yes, I Shall Arise--to give the choirs time to regain their voice hehe...

Fr. Peter first unveiled the cross outside the church's entrance.

Today is all about remembering what Jesus did to release us from our original sins. And of how we should repent and stop nailing Him on the cross by continuing with our sinful ways.

Easier said than done... the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. However, as Fr. Peter said, we are but mere human... to return to the righteous path is a daily journey. As human, we may keep falling into sins, but the most important thing is that we continue with our struggle to return.

Incredibly looooong queues during the veneration of the cross.

It is kadazanmonk here. Did Fr.P sang from the pulpit or he had to ascend to the choir loft? Holy Thursday & Gd Friday liturgy at Ampleforth Abbey were magnificent with a sung Mass. The Passion was beautifully sung with a beautiful mournful sound of a violin played by one of the monk to set the mood and as background music. The choir is from the students of Oxford university. We only have one Cross too and the congregation venerated the Cross by kissing Christ Corpus. Venerating with a bow to a Cross without the body of Christ is Protestant theology not Catholic. I am so please that Fr. P brought back the correct way. Also having one cross for the veneration is also the true way otherwise people have to venerate the two thieves hanging on the cross if there are three Crosses. It is Holy saturday here and it is snowing heavily. We are having a white Easter for the first time in several years. Happy Easter.
