The "Happy Lady"
Tuesday, November 27, 2007
My office is 17km from where I stay in Penampang. To reach office by 7.30am (to avoid the jam!) I must leave home by 6.45am. Otherwise to reach by 8.00am (the official working hour) I must leave latest by 7.15am.
And everyday, for more than a year now, I would pass by this modern-hippy-like, “happy lady” walking along Lintas Road toward Lido main road. She’s kinda chubby but in a cute way, dressed simply but modern-hippy, and she walks with a sway as if she’s dance-walking while listening to her i-pod. She never fails to capture my attention, simply because of the way she carry herself; without a care in the World, walking briskly but in a ‘joyful’ manner! You just have to see “happy lady” for yourself.
If you’re using the same road as me in the morning, you’ll be able to catch “happy lady” around 7.00am – 7.25am.
One morning 3 months back, caught in the usual jam at Lintas road, I didn’t realize I was looking her way and unconciously smiling to myself. Suddenly, she looked straight at me as she was walking by, and SMILED! A wide, friendly “hello” kinda smile. My lip stretched further up to my ears in response.
It was a lovely feeling, to exchange smile with a stranger. But I can’t call her a stranger can I? I see her everyday on that same stretch of road.
This morning, she not only smiled at me… she waved too hehe … my reflex was a bit slow, so I could only grin back at her as the traffic was moving. Perhaps tomorrow I shall wave and smile back …
Wish I could capture a photo of her walking by, but I might frustrate the car behind me and receive angry honking *grin* and not to mention, I would come across as being rude to her hehe.
Well, whoever "happy lady" is, she certainly makes my morning drive to work interesting.
"Smile, and the World just might smile back at you."

I know the feeling. When i was in Penang i went to work on bike and there was one morning, i was all wet, stuck in the jammed infront of the convent school and i was cursing my situation of being wet on the bike while others are very comfortable in their car. Then i saw a lady in a car right next to me, She was driving a luxury car BUT she was sobbing with tears...then i realized that everybody has a story of their own, be it good or bad, and judging to her empty stared with the tears in her eyes...i guess i'm so lucky...even thou cold and wet...I was so happy for the whole day...not because of the Lady's misfortune but because of the 'thankful' feeling that i never realized before.
